Put labels on the boxes because I was fed up trying to guess which one is in which.

Toys: Wooden Family

I've re-done Dol.
Instead of a cyclops doll I thought a wooden toy train might be better as you can show more interaction between creature and object.

Toys: Wooden Family

Dolly!

All unpainted like.

All painted like.

I'd recently seen 'kill bill' for the first time the other day and I thought what a better role model than Uma Thurman's 'bride' to show the cyclops youth the value of forgiveness.

Toys: Wooden Family

Cyclopes like to fish. (in my mind)

I always knew the broken umbrella would come in handy.

Hook, line and sinker.

Toys: Wooden Family

The idea behind the paint was to give them personality.
I think if I give them an accessory it will give them another side to 'em.

So I give you a balloon.
Made from paperclip and modelling foam.

What else than red?

Toys: Wooden Family

I want to add a bit of colour to them.

Lets make stripey jumpers.
Masking tape primed.

Paint applied.

Masking tape removed.

The eyes were still not popping out enough for me so I painted them aswell.
It's like a terrifying family photo.

Toys: Wooden Family

Been making simple boxes for the packaging of the cyclops'. They're made from mountboard, double-sided sticky tape and paper.

Handy gap so you can pull the lid off.

Might display the cyclops' by standing them on top. using the boxes as plinths.

Saturday 2 April 2011

Replica: Mezzadro

How many times has the mezzadro chair gone wrong?
1: Ripped into the seat when cutting.

2: piece of plastic wasn't big enough for the vacuum former.

3: Started cutting the holes too big.

4: Nothing wrong. Technician suggested some things to make it better.

5: Which I did on no.5.

Got a one mm drill bit and stuck it all the way through the dimply areas.
Made a blunt wooden tool to encourage the plastic to do what it needed to do.

Wednesday 30 March 2011

Replica: Mezzadro

Started the second part of the brief.
Making another model out of similar materials.
Learnt a little trick today.
Pin the foam model in the dips, this allows the plastic to get into the details.

The offcut plastic looks like a face if you add eyes.

Or Edvard Munch's 'scream' if you want to get into specifics.

'Oh sugarmonkeys'!'

I think I might do the seat again because it has split a bit up one side.
