Replica: Mezzadro

Started the second part of the brief.
Making another model out of similar materials.
Learnt a little trick today.
Pin the foam model in the dips, this allows the plastic to get into the details.

The offcut plastic looks like a face if you add eyes.

Or Edvard Munch's 'scream' if you want to get into specifics.

'Oh sugarmonkeys'!'

I think I might do the seat again because it has split a bit up one side.

How it looks all assembled.

1st part of the brief over.
Need to make it from similar materials now.

Toys: Wooden Family

Varnishing the family today.
Hope I don't get a headache.

Replica: Mezzadro

Made the bottom foot. I'm not pleased with it. I might do it again if time will let me.

Also been cutting tiny things to stick on.

All the seperate pieces.

Replica: Mezzadro

Changed the original mold but for no reason because I haven't used it again and have been working with the cast I made from before.

Cut the holes into the seat and need to stick little bits back on.

The seat so far.

DISASTER!!

Its twanged back.

The mold needs to be changed to compensate for this.

Edit: Not as big a disaster as I originally thought. The plastic can be squished into shape.

Kids Seating - Model

The upholstery armour stuff. Inspired by Japanese armour.

How it looks on the chair. I haven't added the straps because they're a bit small and fiddly.

Hate the wonky leg!!! Oh well.

Replica: Mezzadro

Plastic welded 2 pieces of plasticard together around the mold.

I'm going to leave it overnight.

Kids Seating - Model

Finshed the plastic part of the model.

It reminds me of a dog from this angle.

Need to make the upholstery armour.

Replica: Mezzadro

Cut out the seats with scissors and then smoothed the edges.

I think it looks better when I cut out the dimples. However, I need to smooth the edges and stick bottoms to the gaps.
Need to holepunch the thing as well.

Kids Seating - Model

Lots of model making today. I've made most of the parts but they just need sticking together. They're stuck together with white-tac at the moment. The backrest needs adding also.

I bought a new small paintbrush to replace my tatty old one. The first time I used plastic weld with it and the bristles started melting. Resorted to using a MASSIVE brush and welding myself to the table. Not fun at all.

Pictured: A nightmare

This is what happens when plastic weld comes in contact with air.

Replica: Mezzadro

Today I did some vacuum forming.
These are the results.

Fail 1.
Problem is I didn't leave the plastic under the heater for long enough.

Fail 2.

A bit better this time but the dimples haven't shown up well. It was also quite difficult to remove the mold from the plastic. I'm going to have to taper the edges.

Kids Seating - Model

I never liked the model I made for it before so I've decided to re-do it.

Replica: Mezzadro

Been making the molds for the replica chair project today out of foam.

The mold on the right was quick and easy to do. I'm going to bend some modelling plasticard around it to make the seat base. Using this method will hopefully mean that the angles will be correct.

Awesome ass-groove action on the left there.

The mold on the left is the seat. It has dimples in it and was annoying to do. I'm going to vacuum form over it and see how it turns out.

Drilled the pupils in. Sanded the edges smoother. Made them hair which needs sticking. Also need to varnish them. Not going to do any more to them.

Thursday 17 March 2011

Gaffer: 2 objects.

I went for Mega Tooth Brush. The most awesomeness toothbrush in the bathroom cabinet.
I'm very fond of WordArt lately.

Gaffer: Wearable, portable

Final board for portable part of project. I changed the name to CAR GAFF 6000 because obviously its cheaper than CAR GAFF 7000 but is still upgradable.

Wednesday 16 March 2011

Gaffer: 2 objects.

Double edged toothbrush. Save 30 seconds of time by brushing both top and bottom sets of teeth at the same time.

Gaffer: Wearable, portable

Another board illustrating the frustration of not having a parking space when trying to park.
Mad guy complains to pregnant lady: I don't care if you're having a baby, think of someone else for a change. I need to get my fix of Taylor Lautner. Woman.

THIS IS ALL SARCASM. I'm hating the project and want other people to hate it as well.

Tuesday 15 March 2011

Gaffer: 2 objects.

Tape with holes in strapped to 2 rulers means you can draw consistent dashed lines.

Gaffer: Wearable, portable

One of the boards I might use for the 5 minute pitch of the product.
Its marketed at the clinically insane.
This board represents paranoia and being constantly being told what/what not to do and just general people getting in the way.

Monday 14 March 2011

Gaffer: 2 objects.

Left shoe on the right pictured on the left attached to right shoe on the left pictured on the right.

You're probably thinking why tape two shoes together? Its pointless!?
Well my friend, these shoes aren't made for walking, they're for 3 legged races.

Gaffer: Wearable, portable

Design 1: Comic Sans + Tiled pictures = a decadent extravagance of naffness! YAY!

Design 2:  Comic Sans (rainbow) + smiley faces + bright, ugly colours = Lovely horribliness.

Black, white and boring is the design I'm going for.
